Denis joined the (Manchester) Guardian in 1974 ‘just to go out and take pictures’! With an eye for the spectacular, the romantic and the Bresson inspired moment, Thorpe has won numerous awards, including the 1979 Worlds Press Photo Gold Medal and Ilford Photographer of the Year in 1988. Brian’s work is has been influenced more by painters, particularly the Symbolists and Expressionists. Recently he has become interested in the Pictorialist photographers who were pioneers of art photography in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century’s. "Wild Britain" - Barry Payling

Wild Britain is a medium format slide show projected on the Hasselblad PCP 80 projector. All the slides are shot on Velvia 50 slide film. It’s almost certain you will see slides from the Derbyshire and Yorkshire Dales, the English Lake District and the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, along with some of the characters Barry meets on his travels.

Barry is one of the top speakers on the photographic circuit and his amusing anecdotes can be quite colourful so political correctness is not a feature of the show.
