About Chester Photographic Society

Chester Photographic Society is a Section of the Chester Society of Natural Science, Literature and Art, which was founded in 1871. The Photographic Society itself was founded in 1887, making it one of the oldest photographic societies in Cheshire. We are affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain through the Lancashire and Cheshire Photographic Union.

The Society meets on a weekly basis from September to April. We meet either in the Lecture theatre of the Grosvenor Museum, Grosvenor Street, or in the United Reformed Church, at Green Lane/Oldfield Drive, Vicars Cross, Chester, on Tuesday evenings from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m.

Our meetings consist of a programme compiled to provide a varied and interesting mix of Lectures, Demonstrations. Competitions, Social Events and Outings. We have members involved in all aspects of photography from Travel, Natural History, Sport, Architecture and Landscape to Portraiture.

All the above adds considerable value for our members engaged in digital photography - so why not join us simply come along to the next meeting and ask for details (see Syllabus page for meeting venue) and you too can gain these membership benefits!

All Lectures are given by experienced Photographers and Trade Sponsored Speakers. These evenings are designed to be both entertaining and instructive, providing something for everyone from the beginner to items on more advanced techniques that will be of interest to even the most experienced worker.

We take part in various local and Inter-Club Competitions around Lancashire, Cheshire and North Wales. Throughout the year we also run a number of Competitions for Prints, Digital Projected Images and Slides that culminate in an Annual Competition. Each year an exhibition of members work is staged here on the website and whenever possible in or around the City.

Visitors are always most welcome to attend any of our meeting, so if you are interested in photography, whether you are young, inexperienced or indeed an old hand, why not come along and see what CPS has to offer, you're guaranteed a friendly welcome!
